Bauchi women protest monarch’s continued detention

Hundreds of Sayawa women in the Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa local government areas of Bauchi State demonstrated against the continued detention of their monarch, Air Commodore Ishaku Komo, the Gung Zaar-elect.

According to The PUNCH, it was gathered that the women are protesting for the fifth consecutive day, demanding the liberation of their monarch.

It was reported that the Gung Zaar-select and six others were detained for their alleged involvement in the communal conflict that erupted two weeks ago in Sang Village, Bogoro LGA, over the coronation of a Hamlet Head.

The incident resulted in the gruesome death of a 70-year-old man and numerous injuries of varying severity. Additionally, 74 homes, stores, and three motorcycles were completely destroyed.

In a statement, the Bauchi State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Ahmed Wakil, insisted that the detained monarch and the other six individuals have a case to answer for the incident.

The majority of the demonstrators, who were dressed in black, carried branches and leaves from trees, while others carried posters and banners with varied demands for the liberation of their monarch.

They performed a number of songs while walking through Tafawa Balewa town for several hours.

The protesting women pushed open stores and businesses to close as they made their way throughout town.

They also blocked down all key highways leading into and out of Tafawa Balewa.
