Gov poll: NNPP’s victory will of God, says Islamic cleric

An Imam at Ansarudeen Mosque in Sabon Gari in Fagge Local Government of Kano State, Alhaji Tajudeen Usman, has expressed satisfaction with the emergence of Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party as the new governor of Kano State in the just concluded gubernatorial polls, saying it’s the ‘will of God.’

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission in eraly hours of Monday declared Kabir Yusuf the winner of the election.

Yusuf polled 1,019,602 votes to defeat his closest rival and the incumbent Deputy Governor of the state, Nasiru Yusuf-Gawuna of the APC, who scored 892,705 votes.

The News Agency of Nigeria said, while congratulating the governor-elect on his victory at the polls, Usman called on him to ensure peace and unity reign in the state.

The cleric charged those that lost in the elections to congratulate the winners.

“I call on the winning side to extend an olive tree to their opponents.

“Residents should remain calm and shun inciting comments capable of jeopardising peace and tranquility of the state.”
