Lagos police remand Arabic teacher for sodomising pupil

The Lagos State Police Command has remanded a 28-year-old Arabic teacher, Mohammed Algoni, for allegedly sodomising an 11-year-old pupil in the Ifako area of the state.

According to The PUNCH, the suspect has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre on Monday after appearing before the Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court on a charge of sodomy.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, said the victim, who was in an Arabic boarding school, came home for the Sallah break, and told his mother that he wasn’t going back to school again.

Akeem also said the victim told his mother how the defendant, who was one of his teachers, had been allegedly sexually sodomising him.

The prosecutor said the offence was reported at the police station and the defendant was arrested.

Akeem said the offence committed contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

During the court proceedings, the Chief Magistrate, B. O Osunsanmi, did not take the defendant‘s plea.

Osunsabmi ordered that Algoni should be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.

The magistrate adjourned the case till September 28, for receipt of the DPP’s advice.
