Why churches should support gospel artistes – Joseph Briggs

A show promoter and gospel singer, Joseph Briggs, has urged churches to support more gospel and independent artistes.

Speaking about the challenges he is currently facing in his career, he told Sunday Scoop, “The challenges I face include not getting the required moral and financial support from fellow Christians and church organisations in terms of funds to handle music production and promotion.

“I will be happy to see churches supporting talented independent artistes, so that they won’t have to wait for record labels or resort to doing secular music.”

On what inspired him to become an artiste, artiste manager and show promoter, he said, “I started as a drummer in church, and I was always moving from one Christian programme to another. I later got acquainted with some gospel artistes who I helped with publicity and managing their events. Unknown to me then, I was doing the work of an artiste manager and promoter.

“I later read about it online, and officially started practising it when I got into the university. I was led by God to become an artiste immediately I realised I could write and arrange my own songs.”

Briggs, who is a graduate of Business Management, has worked with gospel singers such as Cece Winans, Marvin Sapp, Darwin Hobbs, Micah Stampley, Phil Thompson, Deitrick Haddon, Eben and Tim Godfrey.

He is also set to release two songs titled, Jayamma and I am Remembered (featuring Skerz Beatz).
