Christian pilgrims from Borno have commended the Borno State Government, led by Governor Babagana Zulum, for its commitment to fostering the people’s faith by sponsoring 101 locals to travel to Israel for the 2023 Christian pilgrimage.

The trip was an opportunity for the Church to pray for peace as the nation prepares for the national elections in 2023, according to the Auxiliary Bishop of Maiduguri Catholic Dioceses, Rev. John Bakeni, 21st Century Chronicle reported.

According to the bishop, taking part in the journey would provide Christian believers the chance to both rekindle their devotion to God’s worship and follow in Jesus Christ’s footsteps.

To make the most of the chance and to think of themselves as pilgrims rather than tourists, he urged the travelers to make the most of their journey.

He said, ”I commend our Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for giving the Christians in the state this wonderful opportunity of renewing their faith by providing resources from the coffers of the state for their spiritual growth.

“I also commend the deputy Governor for all his efforts at ensuring that the 2023 pilgrimage comes to fruition for the Christians in the state.”

Additionally, a former state head of service, Simon Malgwi, praised Gov. Zulum for making it possible for the pilgrims to take part in this year’s pilgrimage and congratulated them on reaching the holy land.

Malgwi stated that his faith had been enhanced as a result of having read a significant amount of the holy Bible and having had the opportunity to travel to the holy land to experience certain things for himself.

Participants would come home to testify to people who had not traveled to the location that the events described in the holy book were true, not fiction, he said, after having personally observed what was written there.

One of the participants, Mr. Ayuba Dawa, said that his visit to the holy place led him to accept the veracity of the Bible.

” I am happy to be here. My eyes have seen, my hands have touched and even my legs have walked on those things said in the Bible.

“We will be praying for a peaceful 2023 general elections and total return of peace to Borno State and the country as a whole. I commend Governor Zulum for giving us the opportunity to renew our faith,” he added.
