Kenyan police have reportedly arrested a cleric, identified as Makenzie Nthenge, after four of his followers starved themselves in order to “meet Jesus”.

It was also gathered that 11 of his followers were taken to hospital while three of them are in critical condition.

They were said to have been rescued on Friday in the Shakahola forest near the town of Malindi.

“The pastor is under arrest after he surrendered because he knew we were looking for him,” said Charles Kamau, criminal investigations chief of Malindi sub-county.

It was also reported that the cleric has been arrested and would be taken to the court on Monday.

Following complaints of “ignorant citizens starving to death under the pretense of meeting Jesus after being brainwashed by a suspect, Makenzie Nthenge, a pastor of Good News International Church,” police conducted a raid in a forest near the coast of Kenya on Friday.
