Niger gov reacts to Catholic priest's murder, demands drastic action

The Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has condemned the brutal murder of Very Rev. fr. Isaac Achi, a priest at the Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kaffin Koro, in Paikoro Local Government Area.

The state CAN chairman, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, condemned the heinous act in a statement provided to the media and signed by Daniel Atori.

He maintained, “Enough of the attacks and wanton killings of innocent Nigeria citizens.”

The Christian Body, has consequently, demanded investigations into the incident and emphasized the need to hold those responsible, accountable.

He offered prayers for the souls of all the faithful departed, including the soul of Very Rev. Fr. Achi.

In order to combat terrorism and insecurity, the CAN chairman urged the government, the police, and other security services to step up their efforts to combat terrorism and instability, stating that “one of the primary responsibilities of government is to protect lives and property of the people you govern.”

The clergyman expressed his condolences to the immediate family of the deceased priest, the Catholic Diocese of Minna, parishioners, and the entire Christendom.

Prior to his passing, he served as the Dean and Parish Priest of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kaffin Koro in the Minna Diocese as well as the CAN Coordinator for Paikoro LGA.
