Obasanjo prostrates before new Olowu of Owu

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was pictured prostrating before the new Olowu of Owu-elect, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola.

A photograph showing the 85-year-old ex-president was made available to Religion Nigeria by Obasanjo’s Media Aide, Kehinde Akinyemi.

According to Akinyemi, the moment was captured shortly after the Olowu was presented to the people of Owu.

“Former President and Balogun of Owu Kingdom Abeokuta, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (left) prostrating for the new Olowu of Owu-elect, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola shortly after his presentation to the sons and daughters of Owu land, before going into mandatory seclusion (Ipebi) on Monday at the residence of the former President at Itaeko. On the right was the Otun Owu Kingdom, Chief ‘Doja Adewolu taking similar obeisance,” Akinyemi revealed.

Meanwhile, the Olowu of Owu-elect is not the first monarch Obasanjo would pay homage to in such a manner.

In the past, the former president prostrated before the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, and the Ooni of Ife -Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; (Ọjájá II).

The former president had in March 2022 prostrated before a 59-year-old Agura of Gbagura in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
