Three Anglican clerics die in Ekiti crash

At least four people were killed including three Anglican clerics in a road accident that occurred along Ekiti-Oke Diocese on Otun–Iro Ekiti Road in Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

According to Vanguard, the deceased clerics were said to be travelling from Ipere-Ekiti to Iro-Ekiti, when their bus somersaulted and they died instantly on Tuesday.

It was gathered that five other clerics, who sustained injuries were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, while corpses of the three clergymen were deposited in the hospital morgue.

It was said one of the deceased, Reverend Felix Okeowo, who was transferred from Saint Peters’ Anglican Church, Ipere Ekiti, was on his way to assume duty in his new station in Iro-Ekiti, when the incident occurred.

Others listed include Reverend Arije of Saint James’ Anglican Church, Eda Oniyo Ekiti and Reverend Omotoso of Saint Mary’s Anglican Church, Ewu Ekiti.

A relative of late Reverend Okeowo, simply identified as Mrs. Cecilia was also said to have died in the crash.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the fatal accident and said men of the Command were immediately drafted to the area.

The spokesman said, “We got the information, our men from the traffic section were deployed to the axis.

“The bodies of the deceased were recovered and moved to hospital where they were confirmed dead.We are monitoring the situation. Investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
